LAPIS LAZULI

An opaque gemstone with a characteristic appearance and indigo color with golden reflections due to the pyrite, and white due to the calcite. It is actually a rock made up of different minerals, the main component of which is lazurite (25-40%). Other minerals that make it up include augite, calcite, diopside, enstatite, mica, autunite, hornblende, noselite and pyrite.

DID YOU KNOW THAT…?

Due to the conditions for its formation, deposits are found at high altitudes. It was highly regarded in antiquity, since it was believed that the carrier was protected from the devil. Its name is Arabic in origin, meaning “sky stone”.
