In 2020, TOUS became a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) Code of Practices (COP), the organization that sets the standards for ethical business practices and responsible supply chain within the jewelry and watchmaking industry worldwide, having successfully passed an audit process that recognizes our comprehensive commitment to sustainability.
This recognition once again demonstrates our firm commitment to sustainability, the environment, human rights, operational transparency, and disclosure through the successful implementation of the sustainability guidelines established by the RJC, a member of the ISEAL Alliance, an international organization that establishes codes of good practice and quality for the design and introduction of systems to address social and environmental issues.
“A commitment to sustainable development has guided our steps and growth from the beginning. Receiving this certification from the RJC, one of the most prestigious bodies in the industry, has encouraged us to continue working every day to set an example of responsible business practices. We were very excited to receive it in 2020, the year of our 100th anniversary,” explained Rosa Tous, Vice President of the company.
The audit process reviews a number of workflows, such as responsible supply chains, production, human rights, working conditions and labor rights, health and safety in the workplace, the use of precious metals, and responsible practices in obtaining raw materials.
The COP provides a common standard for ethical, social, human rights, and environmental practices, and all RJC business members must be certified under it. COP certification provides a robust system to reassure stakeholders, shareholders, customers, and business partners that a company conducts its business responsibly. This can add value to a company’s products and help protect and improve its brands.
More importantly, COP certification can reduce risks and vulnerabilities in a company’s supply chain and improve management systems and operating procedures to strengthen the business and make it more sustainable. At the same time, it leads to better social and environmental conditions within the industry in general, which generates positive impacts for workers, communities, and the environment alike. We value TOUS leadership and its commitment through responsible business practices. These policies are listed below:
