A time machine to move between past and present

Since its conception, Rolex has always known how to adapt their watches to the times. One hundred and sixteen years have gone by since Hans Wilsdorf founded the business in London, which would later become a pioneer in wrist watches. Looking back, it’s clear to see that lifestyles and the needs of society have changed dramatically in the last century, and even in the last decade. Would you like to join us for a journey back in time?

Rolex in the past

As well as being a pioneer in wrist watches, Rolex has incorporated many innovations over the years. Did you know that Rolex invented the first waterproof watch in 1926? Nearly one hundred years ago! It was called the “Oyster”. The first wrist watch with automatic date change on the face arrived in 1945 and, just eight years later in 1953, Rolex brought out the first watch that was waterproof to a depth of 100 meters. The groundbreaking watch design that displayed two time zones together was born in 1955 and christened the “GTM Master”.

Rolex today

Every year, Rolex continues to incorporate numerous innovations that make the watch a machine, and not just a time machine. In 2012 the new diving watch prototype was announced. In the same year, it successfully withstood the pressure at a depth of 10,908 meters. But it’s not just about technology. The website rolex.org demonstrates the brand’s commitment to conservation of the planet and human potential through articles and videos. And so, it launched “Perpetual Spirit”, discovering that “behind the Rolex crown is a way of thinking about our place in the world and an aspiration to contribute”. “Perpetual Spirit” is a long-term perspective of the future based on a fundamental belief in unlimited human potential.

As well as a commitment to human potential, Rolex also demonstrates strong environmental values. Nowadays, the protection of our planet and a commitment to the world in which we live are important issues. The Rolex brand is consistent in its values and places great emphasis on the protection of the environment.
